Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October. A time of color and season change with the autumn arrival. Everyone thinks about the oranges, and yellows filling the trees and outdoors, but one more color to think about is pink.

Pink is the color that is associated with Breast Cancer Awareness, which takes place every October of every year. Not saying that we shouldn’t have cancer awareness all of the time, but for this month, the world comes together as we focus on such a powerful statement.

Cancer has always been something that holds true meaning in my life. I always feel that there is never enough that we could do to raise money and find cures.

So, since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there are many facts you probably did not know. The National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. has a few facts that they felt the world needed to know. I picked out a few here, but you can always click the link embedded to find out more.

Did you know…That one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Did you know…Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.
Did you know…Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.

These statistics blow my mind, and make the life we live, a little more real. There are many things you can do as a person to help spread the awareness throughout your area, and country.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. has plans in order to stay aware of your body, and to help treat breast cancer earlier than you would without knowing. It is called Early Detection and it is designed to let people to know what to do and where to go, if breast cancer arises within themselves. Know the signs and symptoms, and how to self examine, and who to go to if you ever need to. Always have a plan.

One thing the NBCF shares to do, is fundraise. Starting a bake sale, or ticketed event such as a benefits concert are all things that people will want to get together for, and take a stand for awareness. Even a sports game dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness is awesome. I know where I am from, there were “Pink” games every October. There are many things that go on in many different areas, including Breast Cancer walks, such as Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and these are all over. It is run by the American Cancer Society, and all you have to do is go to their website, and enter your zip code to find more information around you. Even if you don’t have time, donating to a specific team works as well.
Another thing you can do as a person, is just spread the pink. Pink shoes, pink shirts, pink hair, pink hats, pink socks, anything! Show people that you care, and are trying to spread the love and awareness. It really does make a difference.
Whatever you can do, whether it is big or small, matters. So when you are going about your day, don’t forget to Keep Calm and Think Pink.
