Easy Microwave Recipies For The Dorm Room

We all know getting to the dining hall is a tough task in between classes, homework, extracurricular, and all that jazz, but what if everything you needed to eat just came from the comfort of your microwave.

Yes, I said it: Microwave. When you think of microwave dinners, you probably think of Hot Pockets, or the Hungry Man meals. After this, you’ll be thinking along the lines of five star meals, college style that is.

What's cooking?

What’s cooking?

They may not be the healthiest meals in the world, but they are quick, easy, and a lot of fun. If you have the creative mind like me, using these as a substitute to the dining hall may be the best thing for you. Even spicing it up and making your own meals can bring you a long way.

Drum roll please, your life is about to change, because I am starting with dessert.

  • 4 Tbsp. Self-Rising Flour
  • 4 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. Oil
  • 3 Tbsp. Milk
  • 2 Tbsp. Unsweetened Cocoa
  • 3 Tbsp. Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Splash of Vanilla
  • 1 Large Coffee Mug

First, mix all your dry ingredients in your mug, then add the egg. Mix well, then add the milk and oil, mixing some more. Stir in the chocolate chips and vanilla. Pop it in the microwave for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes and you’ll have your cake AND you can eat it too. So yummy!

Okay, since everyone LOVES dessert, or at least I do, cookies are one of my favorites, especially warm chocolate chip. Yes, I’m one of those risky people that east cookie dough, but sometimes I’m in the mood for the real deal. Learning how to make one in the microwave may be dangerous if you are like me, so take precaution when reading this.

Microwave Cookie in a Cup :

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt

Now put it all together, and stick it in the microwave for 40-60 seconds and there ya have it: Cookie in a Cup.

Alright, now that you are set for all your dessert needs, here comes some interesting dinner choices, with just using Ramen Noodles.

What can YOU do with your Ramen?

What can YOU do with your Ramen?

When I think of Ramen, I think of boring, salty and an identity crisis between being a soup, or pasta dish. Your view on this fill-in food will all change: now.

1. Pour heated marinara sauce over hot boiled Ramen Noodles, to have the slightest taste of that Sunday spaghetti, in half the time that is.

2. Heat up some of that chilli you may or may not haven taken from the dining hall and pour that over those hot boiled Ramen Noodles.

3. Add of a chicken flavored seasoning packet, 1 tablespoon butter, and 2-3 tablespoons milk to a package of boiled drained Ramen for a creamy side dish.

4. Mix cooled boiled Ramen noodles with three-bean salad and some additional Italian dressing

If you don’t have time for these yummy dinner ideas, try a quicker snack of just breaking off pieces of dry Ramen and dipping it into your favorite salsa, for the chips and salsa effect.

Okay, now that I’ve blown your mind, try different recipes and ideas found either online, or simply made up. You never know what you are going to get. It may be completely delicious, or it might be a complete dud. I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Websites such as Pinterest have many other simple meals, that take no longer than 10 minutes, so browse around and see what fits you. Don’t forget to eat up and Keep Calm and College On.
